Virtual Net Billing
Virtual Net Billing:
What it is and how it works
Virtual Net Billing is an innovative energy management method that allows you to generate electricity at one location and use it to reduce consumption costs at a different location. It is an ideal solution for situations where there is insufficient space to install photovoltaics at the point of consumption.
Example 1 :
You have properties in Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, and Serres, but available space for solar panels only in Serres.
With Virtual Net Billing, you can install the system in Serres and offset the generated energy with the consumption in all three homes — as long as all the accounts are under the same name and the same provider.
👉 This way, you make the most of the available space and reduce or eliminate electricity bills for all your properties, even if they are in different regions.
Example 2 :
You have a chain of pastry shops located in various areas, but the only available space for installing solar panels is at your factory or a warehouse outside the city.
With Virtual Net Billing, you can install the solar system at a central location and offset the generated energy with the consumption at all your stores.
👉 This way, one production site covers multiple consumption sites, significantly reducing the overall energy cost of your business.
Example 3 :
You manage multiple short-term rental apartments in various locations. However, you don’t have the option to install solar panels at each building.
With Virtual Net Billing, you can install the system at an available location (e.g., rooftop, warehouse, or land) and offset the generated energy with the electricity consumption at all your apartments.
👉 This way, you significantly reduce energy costs without affecting the guest experience and without separate installations at each location.
Example 4 :
You are a farmer or rancher with multiple facilities, such as storage, greenhouses, irrigation systems, or livestock installations, at different locations.
You can install the solar system at any location that suits you (e.g., at the farm or a fixed installation) and offset the generated energy with all the electricity accounts in your name.
👉 You gain energy independence, reduce operational costs, and invest in the self-sufficiency of your production.
How Does
Virtual Net Billing Work?
Energy Production in a Different Location:
The photovoltaic system is installed on an available space, such as a field, a warehouse roof, or a property outside the main consumption location.
Cost Offset:
The energy produced is “credited” to the consumer’s bill, reducing the electricity cost of the main location, regardless of the distance between the point of production and consumption.
Network Connection:
The generated energy is injected into the electricity grid through a meter.
Buy Extra Energy:
If consumption exceeds the energy produced, the consumer purchases the excess energy from the grid.
In Which Cases Is It Indicated?
Το Virtual Net Billing είναι ιδανικό για:
When a Suitable Roof is Not Available
Virtual Net Billing is the ideal solution for owners who do not have suitable roof space but have other available areas – such as plots, vacation homes, or farmland.
When Energy Consumption Occurs at Different Locations
It applies to consumers who wish to generate electricity at one location and offset it with consumption at another site (e.g., farmers, professionals with storage facilities or vacation homes).
When Achieving Complete Energy Independence is the Goal
It is ideal for those who want to reduce or eliminate their electricity bills by investing in Renewable Energy Sources without technical limitations.
Advantages of Virtual Net Billing
01
Location Flexibility:
It is not required to install photovoltaics at the point of consumption, giving greater freedom in location selection.
02
Energy Cost Reduction:
The energy produced by the photovoltaic system reduces the electricity bills of the main consumption location.
03
Space Utilization:
You can use unused spaces, such as farmland or real estate, to produce energy.
04
Price Increase Protection:
Produce your own energy, reducing dependence on the grid and fluctuations in electricity prices.
05
Environmental Responsibility:
By using Renewable Energy Sources (RES), you reduce your carbon footprint, contributing to sustainability.
Advantages over Classic Virtual Net Billing
Spatial Flexibility:
The consumption area does not need to be the same as the energy production area.
Utilization of Infrastructure in Other Locations:
Αν έχετε ήδη υποδομές ή διαθέσιμη γη, μπορείτε να τις εκμεταλλευτείτε για την παραγωγή ενέργειας.
Productivity Boost:
This solution particularly serves businesses or farmers that have multiple locations.
When Will You Depreciate?
- The payback period depends on your consumption and the size of the system.
- Generally, the payback period ranges between 4-6 years, while the system will operate efficiently for at least 25 years.

Can you offset more than one photovoltaic service in one location?
Yes, you can! Virtual Net Billing allows you to install a photovoltaic system in one location (e.g., at your summer house in Halkidiki) and offset the energy produced with more than one utility located in different locations (e.g., your home in Thessaloniki and Kavala).
Example of Offsetting
Data:
You have:
- A summer house in Halkidiki (location of photovoltaic installation).
- A main residence in Thessaloniki (supply A).
- A house in Kavala (supply B).
How it works:
- You install photovoltaics in the summer house in Halkidiki.
- The energy produced in the summer house is injected into the grid.
- The grid “credits” the produced energy to your utility bills in Thessaloniki and Kavala, reducing the corresponding consumption costs.
Requirements for Virtual Net Billing
All benefits must belong to the same owner (your VAT number).
The installation site must have a permit for the installation of photovoltaics.
The netting is done in total, regardless of the location of consumption.
What will you win?
01
Cost reduction for all benefits:
The energy produced will reduce energy costs for both homes (Thessaloniki and Kavala).
The higher the consumption in your utilities, the greater the savings.
02
Space utilization in Halkidiki:
If you cannot install photovoltaics in other locations (e.g., due to lack of space or suitable roof), utilize the available roof or land of the cottage.
03
Energy independence:
You get stable energy costs, reducing our dependence on increases in electricity prices.
04
Economy and sustainability:
You reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to environmental protection.
How much will you win?
The savings depend on:
- The consumption in the two supplies (Thessaloniki and Kavala).
- The size of the photovoltaic system in Halkidiki.
Calculation Example:
- Total annual consumption in Thessaloniki and Kavala: 10,000 kWh.
- Size of photovoltaic system in Halkidiki: 8 kWp (annual production ~12,000 kWh).
- The energy produced can cover most of the consumption in both supplies, saving up to 2,500-3,000 euros annually.
Why do it?
- Utilization of unused space in Halkidiki.
- Concentration of production in one place for more benefits.
- Maximize cost savings in your main residences.
